As you can see, Battleship is not on the Oscar shortlist for Visual Effects, so there’s 1 that will not be nominated.
The Hobbit and Life of Pi are locks with Prometheus and The Avengers being likely. I wasn’t a fan of the Spider-man or John Carter effects and I don’t believe that the Snow White and Skyfall effects were flashy or evident enough. It seems to be down to Cloud Atlas and The Dark Knight Rises. This is a good category to reward Nolan’s Batman trilogy with, if not for sound.
